We are seeking an Applications Specialist (dairy enzymes) with strong commercial, scientific and analytical acumen to be part of our Application team in Castelo Branco, Brazil. Reporting to the Global Application Manager (Plant-Based Cultures & Enzymes for Dairy/ Alternatives), this hands-on role requires you to apply enzymes in dairy products (eg. fresh-fermented, neutral, frozen), whilst also be the contact point and knowledge holder for the local application and sales team. In this role you will be responsible for dairy enzymes in the LATAM market while being strongly involved with the local team. Furthermore, you will be supported by and working closely together with both research teams and application teams globally.
You will be responsible for creating a strong connection with the food producers, providing technical service, and creating prototypes and innovative concepts. Furthermore, you support and challenge our global R&D organization with knowledge and experience based on your work and insights to the daily challenges met in modern dairy processing. How you will contribute:
- Perform the application of enzymes in a wide range of products such as fresh fermented/ yoghurt, milk drinks, ice cream or milk powders.
- Perform analyses (HPLC) regarding enzymatic performance and on finish products.
- Connect and engage customers to promote our portfolio and follow up on trials and products development
- Independently operate, maintain, and propose for improvements the pilot plant.
- Initiate, organize, conduct, and evaluate pilot plant trials and perform laboratory work to produce reliable data concerning performance of IFF products.
- Manage ingredients inventory, ordering supplies, product shipping & receiving, and managing external product testing.
- Develop and/or localize product concepts and demonstration kits to promote IFF technology, capability, and ingredient design.
- Knowledgeable, reliable, and timely technical support across business functions, including Commercial, Product Managers, Marketing and Regulatory.
- Disciplined project management to deliver high quality, on-time results to external and internal customers.
- Develop and/or deliver customer workshops and presentations to raise customer awareness of IFF capabilities and ingredients.
What you will need to be successful:
- Masters degree in biotechnology, food technology, food engineering or related discipline.
- 3-5 years applications experience in enzyme application and/or product development (experience in dairy technology/ processing is a plus).
- Experience in an R&D or product development environment, with knowledge of product formulation, as well as process troubleshooting will be well beneficial.
- Demonstrated capability in detailed results analysis, and sound technical judgement.
- Ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations professionally and effectively.
- Experience in dairy products
- Experience in enzyme application
- Experience in chromatographic analyses (HPLC) is a plus
- Proven ability to work and manage time and priorities with minimal supervision.
- Commercial acumen and proven ability to balance technical needs with commercial needs.
- Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Customer-focused, open-minded, flexible and thrive in a busy environment with cultural differences
- Take initiative and have an experimental approach.
- Fluent (written and spoken) in English and preferably Spanish
