Software Engineer

The Software Engineer is responsible for develop new features and sustain the Track Manager SW Tool for Wabtec’s flagship Precision Dispatch System (PDS) product. An enterprise level Train Control System that safely and efficiently controls the train movement and work activities by railroad maintenance employees. In this role, the Track Manager Software Engineer is expected to develop new functionality, mitigate existing defects through analysis and software changes, test all software changes in order to validate the issues has been resolved and does not negatively impact existing functionality. You will be an individual contributor on an Agile software development team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Be part of a dev team developing new functionality and defect resolutions for the legacy Track Manager software Tool.
  2. Develop new code and modify existing code in the C++ and Visual C++ programming languages.
  3. Develop code that will interact with the Oracle relational database and stored procedures in the oracle database.
  4. Work with product owner, UI engineer and SW roles and translate requirements to Software functionality and implement within sprint cadence.
  5. Engage subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge
  6. Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
  7. Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
  8. Develop and deliver all process artifacts within sprint cadence.
  9. Ensure all software updates made have been validated to resolve the issue and does not negatively impact existing functionality.
  10. Provides Status on Development progress against sprint plan
  11. Adhere to all Wabtec Engineering, Quality and security processes
  12. Actively participate in all Dev team Agile processes

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, Engineering, or closely related field of study
  2. Software Industry experience
  3. Experience with C++ programming.
  4. Experience, knowledge & troubleshooting of systems with relational databases (Oracle)
  5. Experience with Software Configuration management tools (GITHUB, GITLAB, others)
  6. Highly proficient in spoken and written English

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with Microsoft Foundation classes is a plus.
  2. Build processes and tools (JENKINS)
  3. Railroad or Dispatch Experience
  4. Attention to detail to create designs and quality code
  5. Highly effective and efficient debugging and troubleshooting skills
  6. Adapts to new environments and changing requirements.
  7. Pivots quickly as needed.
