FM Global is looking for a Counsel II based in our offices of São Paulo – Brasil located in Av. Pres. Juscelino Kubitschek, 1909. This is an office-based position that will require in office presence four days a week with flexibility for one day remote . International travel may be required based on business needs.
This position serves as counsel to and advocate for FM Global on all matters assigned by the Vice President, Senior Counsel based in the U.S. and assist in guidance to other in-house legal staff as required. Exercise of excellent judgment and strong decision making are central components of this position.
Some of the responsibilities of this role include:
- Monitor, influence, analyze and assure compliance with new or pending legislation, regulations and cases relative to their potential impact on the Company, advising appropriate Company personnel accordingly. Requires the ability to identify trends and develop knowledge and skills to support emerging areas of legal and regulatory risk. This involves both Federal, State, and Municipal laws and regulations and requires an in-depth understanding of the operations of the Company.
- Advise senior management, corporate functions, and operations on complex legal and regulatory matters that may impact company direction and policy. Analyze legal exposures and make recommendations to senior management to reduce exposures to liability or to loss of company rights and assets. Initiate or encourage proactive policies, procedures and strategies in this regard.
- Advisory examples include: regulatory compliance, data privacy, cyber security, employment law matters and workplace issues; corporate and governance advice; draft and brokerage agreements; advise on policy contracting and termination matters, including reinsurance and captives; prepare requisite regulatory forms and filings; draft and review consultant, vendor and service contracts; and various compliance activities.
- Participation in the development and delivery of trainings to diverse internal groups on such topics as code of conduct, compliance, labor and employment law, including workplace issues, data privacy and cyber security.
- Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications:
- Law degree (JD or local equivalent). Bar admission in good standing.
- 5+ years in law firm or corporate legal department
- Range of general corporate legal experience, preferably in a P/C insurance environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong writing, analytical, negotiation and presentation skills
- Ability to provide practical and actionable advice to internal business clients by simplifying complicated legal issues
- Unimpeachable integrity
- Skilled at resolving complex issues and thinking creatively
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling them to diplomatically and effectively advise a diverse and time-pressed internal client base
- Effective working on global cross-functional teams, open-minded, inclusive, and flexible
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
