Job description

ROLE PROFILE SUMMARY:
This position specializes in the maintenance, general upkeep, and biosecurity enhancement of all Hugoson Pork locations. A specific focus will be on sow and wean to finish sites, however the position will also have broader responsibility for maintenance at rental properties, offices, and shops. This position involves working in an agricultural environment and will include continuous hands-on interaction with livestock, livestock equipment, and machinery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform regular maintenance of barns and equipment, including feed systems, fans, motors, basic electrical, crates and carpentry work.
• Perform regular maintenance and inspections of biosecurity filtration systems, identification of potential risk areas and proposals for improvement.
• Establish a preventive maintenance program, including generator checks and rodent control, across all locations with additional focus on seasonality requirements
• Create and maintain a work order and project log, providing weekly updates regarding progress and backlogs along with forward looking capex projects with budget estimates.
• Manage costs by efficiently leveraging available resources and labor.
• Assist with and be a resource for larger construction or remodel projects ensuring quality of work and adherence to biosecurity guidelines.
• In addition to farm locations, manage and perform general maintenance and building upkeep of rental properties, offices, and shops.
• As time and priorities allow, performing basic vehicle services and/or tire repair for company rolling stock.
• Ensure compliance with all safety rules and practices and encourage staff to do the same.
• Be available to handle and/or assist with emergency maintenance calls on evenings and weekends.
• Travel frequently between locations while maintaining outlined biosecurity measures.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Proficiency in basic math, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
• Clear and effective communication skills.
• Electrical and mechanical experience and/or aptitude required.
• Exemplary production, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Dedication, goal-oriented mindset, motivation, positive attitude, and ability to work effectively as a team or independently.
• Exemplary time-management skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Highly responsible and able to complete tasks efficiently without prompting.
• Ability to prioritize workload and tasks based on importance and urgency.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in software specific to the swine industry.
• Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to work at noise levels that may require hearing protection.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch for extended periods on varied surfaces.
• Ability to reach, perform repetitive motions, and climb over 4-foot gates.
• Ability to manipulate light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation or assistance.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a highly interruptive environment.
• Capable of standing for extended periods and possessing ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm.
• Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp.
