Job description
BRP is seeking a Data Governance Advisor/Specialist who will be participating to support our Data Platform Modernization (DPM) project at BRP. This position will be responsible for deploying data governance capabilities through our Data Governance Platform to support this project. This includes establishing stewardship management, setting up business glossaries, reference data management, policies management, data dictionary, intuitive workflow, embedded privacy by design and other technical processes within our Data Governance platform. This role will also be responsible for performing business process analysis, identifying gaps and inefficiencies, and proposing solutions and plans to streamline; as well as contributing to the definition and implementation of data management and quality processes that enable the optimal and secure use of data, while respecting compliance, privacy, confidentiality and security policies.
YOU’LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
Duties and responsibilities generally include but are not limited to:
- Participate in data governance deliverables and tasks within the project activities specifically to establish the data governance capabilities through our Data Governance Platform :
- Provide leadership and expertise to various stakeholders on projects to proactively address cross-functional business needs through the development of highly innovative approaches and strategic and complex data governance interventions.
- Serve as a data governance advisor to decision-making bodies in relation to the evolution and application of processes and controls in data management.
- Determine, develop, operationalize and regularly evolve the standards, processes, tools and best practices related to the governance of data and analytics.
- Grow data literacy and data maturity across the organization through effective communication strategies and training to build core data proficiencies in data-related and business roles.
- Coordinate the identification of the business lines’ needs and opportunities related to the data in order to contribute to the definition of the strategic orientations of data governance.
- Support the business lines’ decision-making bodies in analyzing risks and potential gaps between the expectations of data frameworks and operational practices.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of practices and mechanisms to ensure compliance with data frameworks.
- Coordinate, track, measure and report on the performance of the standards and practices deployed, including the evolution of data governance maturity.
- Contribute to a data governance framework implementation, to define, develop, operationalize and evolve standards, tools and best practices related to data quality and its enhancement.
- Create and bring the concrete value from data governance conceptual to the business sectors and reverse value as well as adapt your communications to the stakeholders.
- Partner with Business Stakeholders and IT to drive continuous improvement of our data management capabilities, practices, and outcomes to enhance both business performance and compliance levels over time through achievement of target information maturity model milestones.
- Establish and propose the recommendations on the use of data and compliance with applicable data frameworks in the context of strategic, cross-functional and innovative files that have a major impact on the organization's orientations. Which includes the best practice and ownership of the corporate taxonomy and ontology and develop rules for their use.
- Develop standards, policies and procedures to support the creation and provide technical assurance for the on-going implementation of the data governance policy within the business.
- Develop and elaborate the business glossary with business Data Stewards; determine data criticality in the context of identified business processes; Assess general data quality and identify data issues.
- Develop process improvements to enhance overall data quality.
- Develop rules and process to control the integrity (accuracy, thoroughness, process compliance) of all data within Data Warehouse and Big Data environment
- Determine root causes and business impacts of data quality issues; Assess existing data rules & responsibilities; Determine and prioritize data related risks with Data Stewards.
- Provide coaching (mentor and develop junior staff) in support of Data Governance program, include develops and executes its plans.
- Support management and operation of the Data Governance Office including the data stewardship organization and various committees and councils.
YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
- Relevant post-secondary education in data, computing science, business, economics, operations research, engineering, statistics, data governance, or other technical disciplines.
- 5+ years experience in the field of data management, data governance, change management and implementation of complex technology systems.
- Significant experience in establishing and managing data governance programs and execution of related strategic plans.
- Strong knowledge on Data Governance and Data Quality concepts, as well as its best practices.
- Strong knowledge on Data Governance platform which includes the capabilities, functionalities from business and technical perspective and its implementation, such as Colibra, Alation, AXON, Watson IGC, or others. Collibra is preferred, therefore, Collibra Ranger certification is required.
- Knowledge of linking technical elements (Data Models) to business elements (Business process mapping) is required.
- Knowledge of database structures and querying tools (SQL, MySQL, OLAP, Data Warehouse, etc.) experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and manage multiple projects; Issue management experience.
- Strong ability to work in undiscovered, unstructured territories, gather business requirements and to formalize processes that are currently not formalized.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with working with Key Performance Indicators.
- Strong ability to manage different stakeholder perspectives and resistance to change.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and in a cross functional environment.
- Attention to details and ability to deliver a mandate with great autonomy – self-driven.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence and orient business and technical audiences toward a common goal that is satisfying all stakeholders.
- Bilingualism, spoken and written (French and English).
Assets
- Knowledge of data visualization software (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) is considered as a strong asset
- A certification in data governance or data management is considered a strong asset (ex: DAMA Certified Data Management Professional or ICCP Data Governance & Stewardship Professional).
- Experience working in Retail industries, Automotive industries, Transportation industries or Financial Services would also be considered an asset.
