Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance
Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Brazil Remote - This role will primarily be remote but may require occasional in-person visits in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
About The Role:
Sterling is looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant responsible for all activities surrounding the general ledger for our LATAM region supporting the company’s operations in Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil. The LATAM region consolidates into a UK subsidiary so verbal and written English proficiency is critical for this role. We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for several general accounting duties, including, but not limited to monthly close activities, general ledger account reconciliations and analysis, and supporting business teams by providing accounting analysis and support. The ideal candidate is dedicated, proactive, team oriented and able to perform a variety of accounting functions with/without supervision.
Please note: All candidates will be required to pass a verbal and written English proficiency test in order to be considered for this position.
This Is What You’ll Do:
Responsible for monthly close procedures including the preparation of recurring month-end journal entries and adjustments in accordance with US , Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and UK GAAP
Prepare and review team journal entries, as well as monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and financial analysis
Compile month end reporting including cash flow and key month end reporting metrics
Assist with reconciling and analyzing various balance sheet accounts including identification and explanation of variances
Support day to day operations including some treasury functions
Handle special projects and provide back-up support as needed for finance/accounting team . For example, this position will help assimilate the acquired LATAM entities with our Global processes
Interact with business managers and external auditors; provide clarification and accounting support
Drive process improvement and identify opportunities for efficiency
Preparation of ad hoc reports and analyses, as required
This Is What We're Looking For:
Language: Are fluent in verbal and written English, Portuguese, and Spanish and are passionate about high-growth global public companies and have solid accounting skills.
Function: Minimum 3+ years of work experience in a relevant role, including a mix of public accounting within external audit (not consulting or internal audit) and general ledger experience
Education: An accounting degree from an accredited university
Understanding of application and practice of Brazil Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Exceptional attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills
Advanced knowledge of Excel as well as the ability to work with and analyze large amounts of data
Experience using various financial systems is a plus (including NetSuite ERP)
Able to work in a fast-paced, high-growth and rapidly changing environment
Sound written and verbal communication skills
Team player with the ability to work independently
Highly effective analytical skills
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Have experience with US GAAP and/or with Sarbanes Oxley
Hold an a ctive CPA licens e , or equivalent
Have i ndustry experience, preferably in the high technology sect or specific to Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and the United Kingdom
Have m inimum 3+ years of work experience in the areas of monthly financial close, intercompany transactions, account reconciliations, multi-currency consolidations, and financial reporting
The monthly salary maximum for this position is R$10,000. The workload for this position is 44 hours, Monday-Friday.
