We are currently seeking a Technology Development Station Agronomy Manager for the Global Pre-Development Biology Team. This role will manage and coordinate all crop protection, and agronomy research as well as new technology evaluations and breeding work at the Nufarm Technology Development Station at Olds College, Olds, Alberta. This role will provide technical and functional leadership for the station and be an important technical support member of the North American Regional team and Nufarm global team. A high level of expertise in agricultural practices in Canada, the USA, and globally is required to support development for multiple regions within the Nufarm business. Competency in managing a rigorous trial program and strong knowledge of western Canadian growing regions, crops, conditions, and pests is required. Additionally, you will guide equipment and capital purchases for the station.

You will be responsible to recruit and manage a team of employees to drive the success of the Technology Development Station at Olds College. You will be a vital part of field study planning regionally and globally and will liaise with colleagues to ensure the greatest value is achieved from field and greenhouse trials completed at the Technology Development Station. You will be responsible for implementing and executing a broad multidiscipline research field program. You will partner with the Global Field biology coordinator to ensure field protocols are consistent across regions. You will present results to guide decisions from a regional and global perspective.

What will you be doing?

Align all projects and programs with Nufarm Portfolio Solutions goals and priorities. Partner with Global Field biology coordinator to develop protocols to generate data to drive decisions. Coordinate and implement all research and development programs at the Nufarm Technology Development Station and off site at locations covering all soil zones and cropping zones of Alberta. Develop safety and standard operating procedures for the station in accordance with company policies and procedures.

What do you bring?

M.Sc. or Ph.D. in agricultural science degree. A B.Sc. combined with significant field experience may be considered.

7+ years of experience in the crop protection industry.

Demonstrated leadership experience through previous experience leading research teams.

Extensive experience in field research and development of crop protection products

Broad knowledge of crop production systems regionally and globally including extensive knowledge of plant diseases, weed science, insect pests, acceptable agronomic practices, and regulatory requirements.

Experience managing a field research station, maintaining, and operating agricultural equipment, training staff and creating and promoting a culture of safety within your team.

Proven effective communication skills, the ability to influence and drive learning, and strong interpersonal skills.
