Job description

JOB SUMMARY:


The Pathologist serves as a physician member of NMC's Laboratory Services Team to ensure compliance with College of American Pathologists, CLIA '88, Joint Commission, and other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Provide Clinical and Anatomic Pathology services to aid in the diagnosis of disease conditions and the treatment for inpatients and outpatients. The Pathologist works collaboratively with Medical Staff and Clinical Care Teams to provide expert advice within the limits of privileges for Clinical and Anatomic Pathology

Staff Pathologist duties include:
  1. Macroscopic and Microscopic examination of tissue specimens
  2. Provide accurate and timely diagnosis and consultation services to physician/APPs for cases referred to the Northwest Medical Center Laboratory
  3. Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24 hour, 7 days per week consultation for Laboratory and Medical Staff
  4. Consults with providers about ordering and interpreting tests or providing treatments.
  5. Participates in NMC and Laboratory Quality Management Programs. Attends Medical Staff Committees
  6. Provides continuing medical education to promote staff development.
  7. Supports efforts to improve appropriate test utilization and implementation of new technologies

PREREQUISITES

Education: Graduate from a medical school recognized by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association and completed an approved residency in Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of VT. Board Certified in Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology.

Other: The Pathologist must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
