Description

The Construction Estimator - Buildings plays a crucial role within a construction company that undertakes a variety of projects, including residential, multi-residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional. Responsible for assessing costs and preparing accurate estimates, this individual contributes to ensuring the financial and operational success of construction projects.

Responsibilities

Carefully review architectural plans, technical specifications, and tender documents to understand project requirements.
Estimate costs associated with building construction, including materials, labor, equipment, and overheads, with precision.
Analyze drawings and specifications to identify necessary project elements and assess required quantities.
Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors for materials, labor, and services needed for construction.
Utilize specialized estimation software to prepare detailed estimates, integrating quantitative data with unit prices and overheads to establish a project's overall budget.
Prepare comprehensive estimate proposals, explaining cost details and addressing client and stakeholder inquiries.
Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and other team members to ensure estimates meet project needs and budgetary goals.

Requirements

Degree in estimation, architecture, engineering, or any relevant combination of education and experience.
Experience in project estimation within the construction industry, an asset.
Proficiency in cost estimation software.
Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and associated costs.
Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and technical specifications.
Familiarity with computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with clients, suppliers, and project team members.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict project deadlines.
Attention to detail and precision in estimating work to ensure the accuracy of projected costs.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities.
