About the Role

Insurance for drivers and riders is a vital component of our business, and we are continuously pushing the boundaries in this domain. The Uber Legal Team is actively seeking a Safety & Insurance Litigation Senior Counsel with expertise in multi-jurisdiction civil, consumer, and insurance defense industries, along with experience in leading civil liability, commercial, and insurance litigation. This role reports to the Director, of International Safety & Insurance Litigation, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This position is open to the São Paulo office.

About the Team

The Safety and Insurance Litigation team oversees and manages litigation and claims arising out of Uber's insurance policies. In doing so, the team works hand-in-hand with our insurance partners and outside counsel to drive solutions and innovate. The Insurance Litigation team also works across Uber's business teams, from operations to safety, to evaluate and manage risk.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the Safety & Insurance Litigation team's efforts in Latin American countries where Uber operates
• Be responsible for a portfolio of insurance claims and litigation in Latin America
• Develop case-handling strategies, provide guidance to Outside Counsel throughout all phases of civil litigation, and ensure effective legal representation
• Interpret and apply current laws and regulations relevant to Uber's business models, translating them into legal defenses
• Act as a liaison between cross-functional departments, encouraging teamwork while making crucial contributions to business solutions.
• Analyze, respond, and advise to tort liability, insurance inquiries, and safety risks

What You’ll Need:

• Law degree from a top law school.
• Litigation experience in Latin American countries.
• Proven leadership experience, exhibiting an executive presence to mentor and assist other regional attorneys
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration and credibility with business leaders and cross-functional partners
• Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Commitment to the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability
